Anders feels that God is teaching him to be thankful with every penny he finds. He nearly always found a penny on the days he didn’t pray. He thought that was God’s way of urging him to be grateful.
Anders was a devoted man, so instead of just making wishes, he would spontaneously offer prayers.
In an interview with USA Today, Anders stated, “I came to believe that finding a dropped or lost penny was an extra God-given reminder reminding me to always be thankful.” “A misplaced or dropped penny has almost always appeared to remind me to pray on the days when I have not.”
He kept them in five-gallon plastic water jugs for forty-five years. He guessed he had hundreds of thousands of dollars stashed away, however he would soon find out.
The employees loved doing something different when they carried the jugs to the bank. Using an ax and hammer, they chopped the pennies out of the water bottles. They had a number after five hours of chopping and counting on the coin counter.
Anders had amassed $5,136.14 in pennies over the course of 45 years! That comes to approximately 114.4$ annually. In forty-five years, who would have guessed that a passion of collecting pennies would result in a “old car”?
However, Anders used his money to settle a recent dental issue.
He was glad to put the money toward a worthwhile purchase. With the money left over, he gave to the church and used it to finance a family vacation.
